Inn at Carnall Hall

Interior photo of The Inn at Carnall Hall

Thanks to the impressive efforts of dedicated preservationists, an Arkansas landmark has been reborn. Originally built in 1905, Carnall Hall was the first women's dormitory built in the state. The building was designed by noted Arkansas architect Charles Thompson and named for Ella Carnall, one of the first female professors at the University of Arkansas. Painstaking restoration has preserved much of the building's primary materials, including the first floor staircases, pine flooring and dramatic columns that flank the entrance. Porches that originally graced the exterior but when removed during later renovations have been rebuilt. Last used as a dormitory in 1960s, Carnall Hall subsequently housed various academic departments and even a fraternity house before falling into disrepair and closing in 1991. In addition to its fifty guest rooms, the Inn at Carnall Hall contains a classroom and teaching kitchen that will serve as a living laboratory for students of the university's Hospitality and Restaurant Management program.
